My reason to run

So a good friend, Miaozhen started this meme about reason to run. So I thought: Ok, let me have my say too.

The almost inspiring ones:

Some lame ones

Does 1 good deed cancel off 1 wrong?

I was on the MRT last weekend when I saw a Mainland Chinese mother with
her daughter board the train at Bugis station. In the girl's hands was
a cup of ice-cream. They managed to get only one seat. So the mother
seated her daughter on her lap. The daugther then stated spooning
little portions of the ice-cream into her mouth.

Further into the journey, the passenger beside them vacated. The
daughter was then placed on the empty seat. Then a pair of filipino
passengers boarded. But there was only one vacant seat. One of them
took the seat anyway. Then the girl gave away her seat to the other
filipino and went back to sit on her mother's lap. Though one of the
reasons was that the seat was actually still warm from the previous
passenger. She was still nibbling on her ice-cream.

I had the intention to show the mother and daughter the "no food allowed" sign, but they left before I could say anything.

Anyway, the incident got me thinking. Does 1 good deed (giving up her
seat to others) cancel off 1 wrong (eating on the train)? Also, the
girl never dripped ice-cream in the train.

By his brother, Luther (Taken from friendster)

A filial son who tries his best to provide comfort to the family
A great friend who teaches each and everyone the best lessons on life
A respectable commando who lives up to the motto 'For Honour & Glory'
A committed Rover & Scout Leader who is the 'Scout Promise & Law' personified
A humble man of few words, yet touched the hearts of all whom he met

He taught that life is not wasted as long as you live it to the fullest.
He taught the meaning of others before self
He believed that the saying goes, ' A mistake is not a mistake unless it is a repeated mistake'
He is a leader who 'knows the way, goes the way and shows the way'
He gave, each and everyone of us the strength to move on, and till then, shall we meet again

Let him live in our hearts forever.

From Aaron

Lionel,

Unfortunatly, the last time I saw you was a few months back. The time where you all SP Rovers had a gathering. I was there and saw that everyone had a great time, which was good.

I remember Lionel as a Mr. Nice guy. We used to go for some hiking and camping with the SP Rovers along and you always asked me whether I'm okay. Well I was still very young at that point of time and you showed me care and concern, I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Although we didn't get to know each other much for our different chapters of our lifes differ very much apart.

I was very much shocked to recieve the sms that ShuYen had sent to me the other day. I even asked him once again to confirm that was what he tried to mean. I apologise I couldn't attend the wake for I was to work on that day. I promise to make some offerings to you the next time I pay my respect to you.

From all the testimonials I see from everyone, I so wish I had known you better. But it is okay, you will be remembered by everyone that knows you.

New chapters have opened up in your life. A new phase of your life just commenced. Do what you always do, Live life to the fullest. Enjoy the every bit of your life, at least we all know that you are doing great even though you have left us in this world.

Rest in peace dear friend

Aaron

From Neil (SP Rovers):

Lionel,

You will always be remembered by those whose lives you touched with your smile, your warm nature and your friendly personality. Though we are so many years apart in terms of age and thus get to interact during the campfires & activities, you have always come across to me as someone very reliable & committed to what you are doing. The passion you put into your rovering and career in the Commandos are only matched by a few.

I SALUTE you Lionel ! Both as a Rover Scout & as a Officer in the army, for living the great life you have had and for being a shining example to those around you.

I apologise for not being able to send you off during your wake my friend, but you can be sure the first place I'll go to when to touch down in Singapore is to visit you where you lay.

Goodbye Lionel.

Love,
Neil Tan (SP Rovers)
Currently living in Melbourne, Australia

From Tian Han (SP Rovers)

On the 20th June 2006, A tragic news broke out while SP Rovers was carrying out one of her major event of the year, Basic Training Camp. The girls shed tears and the guys were stunned. The news that our senior Lin Shi Guan had passed away made a very big impact on those who know him.
Though I never got the privilege to know Senior Lionel Lin Shi Guan personally, I got to know him through eulogies and articles from the past few days. The way he handled people and situations, unselfish acts that he had committed, positive attitudes that he possessed really teach us how to become a better man.
On the 23rd June 2006, right after BTC camp, I was asked whether I want to attend his funeral but I declined, but after a second thought I decided to pay him my last respect, and I am glad I did. For within those few hours really gave me an insights into many life issues, I never know that one’s life can be so fragile, ended so abruptly, without a word not even a word of Good-bye. For now, I will learn to cherish the people around me and learn to live life to the fullest, the way Senior Shi Guan did.
Senior Shi Guan, I am proud of you, at the same time I am really regretful for not being to know you better when you are around. Thank you for teaching me these invaluable lessons in life.

Yours-In-SP Rovering
